About me

Fully qualified and UKCP registered Psychotherapist currently working in person and online with both Individuals and Couples

My Training and Qualifications

I have completed an MA at the Bath Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BCPC) in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy. As part of the training I spent two years participating in professional peer group supervision as well as conducting client work through the NHS. I have also been working with clients in private practice since February 2014. Since qualifying I have done numerous trainings which support my work as a therapist. These are very wide ranging and extensive and too many to detail here. I have a particular interest and deep personal journey around spirtuality and sexuality and the integration of the two.  I also assist on various experiential trainings focusing on personal and spiritual growth. These can last up to 18 months with a closed group of participants.

Professional Experience

Prior to starting up in private practice, I spent many years working in the environmental sector for a range of charitable, private and public organisations. Although not directly related to the work I do now, I feel my diversity of experience gives me further insight into types of day to day challenges that some of my clients may face.

How I Work as a Therapist

Integrative

On the psychotherapy spectrum, there is a range of approaches. From the more analytical and directive, which tend to focus on childhood experiences and how these have impacted the way we experience ourselves today to that which allows the client to take control of the sessions with minimal interventions from the therapist. Where I sit on this spectrum will vary not only on the person who is sat in front of me but also what I feel the person needs in the moment. Thus even with the same client, my approach will evolve as our relationship evolves. In this respect, I may be said to adhere to an approach that integrates all psychotherapeutic approaches.

Humanistic

Central to the humanistic approach is the idea that each person has the potential within himself to drive change. The role of the therapist therefore is to create an environment that will precipitate this change. In practice, this means that I try to be with each client in an authentic, inquiring way. I believe that there are many different aspects of each of us and as I am with a client I will try and remain aware of how each aspect impacts on me whilst also keeping sight of the person as a whole.

Professional Standards and Ethics

As a psychotherapist registered under UKCP must adhere to both the UKCP and BCPC Code of Ethics, I am also strictly regulated in terms of on-going supervision/peer supervision and CPD, and am required to carry professional indemnity insurance.
